On July 23rd, 2017, at 5:30 am San Francisco time I will be standing at the start line of the 40th San Francisco Marathon, my first Marathon. After months of preparation, I will be finally attempting to cover the distance of 26.2 miles in less than 4 hours. A goal that initially started as a personal challenge, now grows to something bigger. So I decided to launch a fundraiser and support the great causes the RICHMOND/ERMET AID FOUNDATION is supporting.
A course of happy coincidences led to a strong friendship with people active in philanthropy that introduced me to the initiatives of the REAF. The Foundation’s focus has always been, and continues to be, to support AIDS services until there is a cure. REAF now also supports programs that provide food for the needy and programs that support homeless and disenfranchised youth in addition to continued funding for HIV programs in the SF Bay Area.
Their beneficiaries for 2017 include Meals On Wheels of San Francisco, Positive Resource Center, Larkin Street Youth Services, Project Open Hand and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
San Francisco has been the home of my wife, Marta, and yours truly after my big move to the States from Greece in 2015. Here is where I re-invented myself, met life-changing people, and realized that adamant Action is the only way to fulfill our true potential and promote change. At the margins of this city’s undisputable charm, ground-breaking innovations, and cultural prosperity you will find impoverished people living on the streets, people fighting against HIV/AIDS and disadvantaged youths. In pursuit of our individual happiness, we have desensitized, often unintentionally, our receptors to human pain and struggle. These issues are definitely not news for locals, but in no way should be accepted as a normality.
This is my way to give back to a community of people that made me feel at home and see life from a different perspective. If you believe that change can happen, one step at a time, and would like to make a donation to support this initiative, please click the link below and follow the easy instructions. The goal is to gather $2000, but I am all about exceeding the expectations! Every dollar is greatly appreciated and is a step toward a positive outcome.
Thank you and see you at the finish line!
